Mr Michael Wong was appointed Secretary for Development on 1 July 2017.
Mr Wong joined the Administrative Service in August 1985 and rose to the rank of Administrative Officer Staff Grade A1 in April 2017. He served in various bureaux and departments, including the former City and New Territories Administration, the former Television and Entertainment Licensing Authority, the former Legal Department, the Central Policy Unit, the former Trade and Industry Branch, the former Business and Services Promotion Unit, the former Economic Services Bureau, the Security Bureau and the former Economic Development and Labour Bureau. He was Deputy Secretary for Education from July 2007 to August 2009, Director of Information Services from August 2009 to February 2014, and Director of Marine from February 2014 to August 2015. He was appointed Permanent Secretary for Development (Planning and Lands) from August 2015 to June 2017.
Mr Wong holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences Degree from the University of Hong Kong and a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of London (External Programme).
