Graduation Ceremony for the 6th of Senior Executive Diploma in Political Leadership
Today marks a significant occasion with the commencement of the seventh cohort of the "Senior Executive Diploma in Political Leadership," a collaborative initiative between the Hong Kong Academy of Politics and Public Policy (HKAPP) and the HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education (HKUSPACE). Alongside this, the graduation ceremony for the sixth cohort was celebrated, featuring Mr. KK Chan, Chief Secretary for Administration of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, as the guest of honor.
Mr. KK Chan stated in his speech that the thirty graduates of this session come from diverse professional backgrounds, including engineers, social workers, and teachers. He believes that their varied work experiences will enrich each other's learning journey and subsequently enhance Hong Kong's political talent pool.
Mr. Ronny Tong, the Honorary Sponsor of Academy and Convenor of Path of Democracy, announced that for the 2024-2025 academic year, Path of Democracy will expand its scholarship program to include half-tuition scholarships aimed at supporting young locals with an interest in politics but who are financially constrained. This initiative seeks to lessen the financial burden on students and encourage their participation in the program, with the aim of developing visionary leaders for the next generation.
About the Course
The "Senior Executive Diploma in Political Leadership" is a six-month program designed to deepen participants' comprehensive understanding of Hong Kong’s political framework and public policy-making processes. This year, the program will start at October. It continues to feature distinguished lecturers, including Professor Edward CHEN Kwan Yiu, Professor Anthony CHEUNG Bing-leung, and Mr. Jasper TSANG Yok-sing, among others. The participant demographic is broad, with an average age of thirty-nine, encompassing professionals from various industries. Previous cohorts have had the opportunity to visit Beijing for exchanges with research institutions and were received by Mr Xia Baolong, the director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the State Council, enhancing their understanding of national policies. Graduates commonly report that the course not only deepened their understanding of local politics but also significantly contributed to their professional development.
